Welcome to the RNWSA Alpine Championships 2022 Registration

A message from the RNWSA Chair

Following the disappointing cancellation of the Royal Navy Ski and Snowboard Championships in 2021, we are optimistic that a return to delivering a full Championships in January 2022 will be possible. We are planning on that basis, and for the 2022 Championships to be better than ever. Lesson time has been reduced to allow for more time to consolidate training; beginner packages will be the cheapest they’ve ever been; and Ski Freestyle and Ski-Cross are being introduced for the first time.

However, we recognise that COVID 19 may remain a feature and stand by to adapt. We must be prepared to do some things differently. For example, it is possible that we may have to restrict numbers attending. If so, we may adopt an appropriate prioritisation process to factor safety and insurance reasons. If such a process becomes necessary, further guidance will be provided.

We continue to use our third-party travel partner, Wastelandski and I would encourage you to use them for their competitive pricing and easy booking process.

Welcome to the registration platform for the 2022 RNWSA Ski and Snowboard Championships.  Here you will be able to register for one of the race or lesson packages and also RNWSA Membership.

Upon successful completion of the registration process, you will then be able to browse and book accommodation, lift passes, equipment hire, insurance and travel.

Detailed information about the Championships is contained within the RNWSA Ski and Snowboard Championship’s DIN (2021 DIN10-022), which must be read in by all participants whilst completing on-line registration.  You can find this HERE; by clicking the final RNWSA T&C's tickbox on completion of registration, this signifies that you have read and fully understood the DIN).

Race and Lesson Packages

Following on from the success of the 2020 Championships, 2022 will see the continued simplification of the race and lesson packages that are available, the reduction in charges for these packages and the reinforcement of on duty status and its responsibilities.

The sporting nature of the championships continues to be emphasised by focusing the lesson packages on improving skills required to race/compete.  Lesson packages are offered in both weeks with the race package is only available in week 2:

  • Lesson Package – includes 4 half days of instruction and 1 race.  These are available for Novices, Intermediates and Advanced personnel in week 1 and week 2.
  • Ski Race Package – includes 4 days of racing and race training.  This is only available in week 2 for Intermediate and Advanced personnel.

Knowing your ability level is extremely important when booking which level of lessons you require as this will ensure you get the most out of your time on snow. Full details of the Lesson and Race packages including content, ability levels, categories etc, are contained within the Championship DIN.  If you are still unsure after having read the DIN, please get in touch with instructors via the RNWSA website, they will make sure you are in the right group and get the most out of your lessons.

If you are attending both weeks of the Championships you must attend tuition in Week 2 – usually the next level up (i.e. if you complete the Beginners course in Week 1, you are eligible to partake in the Novice course in Week 2).

What Funding Can I Claim?

Serving members and Reservists may be entitled to claim CILOR from your local Catering Office and duty sports travel up to a maximum of £175 from your local budget.  Full details of the criteria and process for these claims is contained within the championship DIN.  There are often other areas of funding available, including CO’s fund, Sports Funds, SEGWG etc; you should apply to those funds directly.  It should also be noted that Beginners may also be able to claim a bursary of up to £50.

You are reminded that to claim CILOR and duty sports travel you must complete the entire lesson or race package; as such the trip will then be considered as official activity and you will be provided with receipts on completion of the activity.  Failure to attend any element of your package will result in your CO being informed that you have not completed the minimum requirement and that entitlement to CILOR, travel assistance and any other grants paid will be revoked.

Membership

You must be member of the RNWSA to attend this event.  Existing members of the RNWSA you will be asked to provide their membership number.

I look forward to seeing you in Tignes.
